Common questions about insurance and restoration claims
Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that navigating insurance claims can be confusing. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive about insurance coverage and the claims process.
Does homeowner's insurance cover water damage?
Most homeowner's policies cover sudden and accidental water damage, such as burst pipes or appliance failures. However, flood damage typically requires a separate flood insurance policy, and gradual damage from lack of maintenance is usually not covered.
Is mold remediation covered by insurance?
Coverage for mold remediation varies by policy. If mold results from a covered water damage event, remediation may be covered. However, mold from long-term moisture issues or lack of maintenance is typically not covered. Check your policy or contact your agent for specifics.
What is a deductible and how does it work?
A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before insurance coverage kicks in. For example, if you have a $1,000 deductible and $10,000 in covered damages, you pay $1,000 and insurance pays $9,000.
Do I need to pay Restorex upfront?
In most cases, we work directly with your insurance company for payment. You typically only need to pay your deductible. We'll explain the payment process during our initial consultation.
What if my claim is denied?
If your claim is denied, you have options. You can request a detailed explanation from your insurance company, file an appeal, or hire a public adjuster. We can provide documentation to support your appeal.
How long does the claims process take?
The timeline varies based on the scope of damage and your insurance company's processes. Simple claims may be resolved in a few weeks, while complex claims can take several months. We work to expedite the process wherever possible.
Should I get multiple estimates?
You're welcome to get multiple estimates, and some insurance companies may require it. We provide detailed, fair estimates that align with insurance industry standards (Xactimate).
What is depreciation and how does it affect my claim?
Depreciation accounts for the age and wear of damaged items. You may receive the depreciated (actual cash value) initially, with the depreciation (recoverable) paid after repairs are completed.
Can I choose my own restoration company?
Yes! You have the right to choose your restoration company. While your insurance may have preferred vendors, you're not required to use them. We work with all insurance companies.
What if I don't have insurance?
We work with all customers, regardless of insurance status. We offer fair pricing and can discuss payment options for out-of-pocket projects. Contact us to discuss your situation.
